Fool Moon by Jim Butcher

After finishing the roller-coaster that is Storm Front, the first book in the Dresden Files, I almost right away continued with book #2 which is called Fool Moon. Now again, I highly recommend that you go into these blind and not go looking for the synopsis but if you’re curious, here’s the synopsis:

Harry Dresden, the only wizard in Chicago has been having a very hard time landing a job. He works as a PI and occasionally helps the police when it comes to a inexplicable crime scenes that they come up (inexplicable as in, they have ruled out any possible mortal way to commit a crime). He gets called in by his friend Karrin Murphy and they go to the crime scene.

There, they find a body, paw prints that don’t match any canine, and the fact that the murder took place on a Full Moon.

And here’s where I am going into slight spoilers so, you’ve been warned.

The culprits were werewolves. That being said, I think the problem with this one was that I am not a huge fan of the whole werewolf lore so this was very much a speed-read experience. I think it was a solid second book but also it suffered drastically from second book syndrome and as so many people have told me (shout-out to the SFF book group on FB), it did not take a leap forward in the “this is significantly better than the previous book” realm because this was not…better than Storm Front.

I enjoyed the growing relationship between Susan and Harry, Murphy and Harry’s friendship. But that is…about it. That’s the only part I liked in the book.

This is a fairly short review because I really don’t have much to say since the book didn’t hit me as hard as Storm Front or the later books as you will see in my other reviews!

Rating: 3.5/5 stars
